Our Fleet
With 54 boats ranging from 7'9" Optis, to traditional Bahamian sloops, to a 30 ft live aboard cruising sailboat, we have a boat for everyone.

26 Optis
The bread and butter of our fleet! These 7'9" floating soap box racers were designed in 1947 by American Clark Mills to be made from two 4'x8' sheets of plywood. They are now the largest sailing class in the world with 150,000 registered boats in over 120 countries, and only sailed by sailors 15 and under.

9 Lasers
The olympic one person dinghy. The Laser, now known as an ILCA was designed in 1970 by Canadian Bruce Kirby. One of the most popular sailing dinghies in the world. More than 215,000 have been made. We have four sizes of sails making them accessible to students as small as 100 lbs.

3 Hobie Getaways
Designed by Greg Ketterman in 2001 as the rotomolded version of the classic Hobie 16. Hobie says they can hold up to 6 people. Our students are certain that they can hold a few more if the sailors are small enough! One of our Getaways is equipped with trapeze for our advanced sailors to learn to fly!

2 Hobie Waves
Designed by Morrelli & Melvin in 1994. At 14 feet long, it was the first rotomolded Hobie Cat.

2 FJ's
The Flying Junior is a Dutch sailboat designed in 1956 by Uus Van Essen and Conrad Gülcher. It was designed as a training boat of the then Olympic Class Flying Dutchman, a huge 20 ft dinghy for two 200 lb. men. Our Flying Junior's are an easier boat to sail for 2 to 4 young sailors.

Laser 2
Designed in 1978 by Frank Bethwaite and Canadian Ian Bruce. This is an advanced boat with both a spinnaker and trapeze.

Zuma
Designed in 1984 by Gary Grossman and Steve Nichols as a roomier and easier to sail version of the Laser. It uses a Laser mast and a Sunfish rudder and daggerboard.

2 Brothers
A traditional E-Class Bahamian sloop. Designed and built by our local boat builder Luther Ferguson in 2020 and owned by his sons Bonzi and Hoshea.

The Day of Reckoning
GBSC's own E-Class sloop designed and constructed by Luther Ferguson in 2025.

Lucayan Lady
Another traditional E-Class sloop designed and built in 2022 by Luther Ferguson and owned by Henry St. George. Named after the A-Class Lucayan Lady owned by Henry's father Edward St. George.

Surfrider
A 24 foot Canadian keelboat called a Shark.
Designed in 1959 by George Hinterhoeller. She was named after the Shark Sailing Director Halpin started sailing on when he was two weeks old. She makes a great stable platform for teaching spinnaker sailing to advanced sailors and roomier dryer setting for teaching adult sailing.

Windsong
A C&C 30 Mark 1. Designed in 1970 by Canadian George Cuthbertson and drawn by Robert Ball. Built the same month Sailing Director Halpin was born and sailed by him since he was five years old. She has been as far north as Lake Superior and as far south as Colombia. She serves as the home of Sailing Director Halpin and his Colombian cat Bandida. Some day soon she will also be used for adult sailing lessons.

Support boats
We also have two 20 foot Freeport Skiff coach boats creatively named Mercury and Yamaha, a sea kayak, an ocean kayak, and Windsong's dinghy Piratefish.
