With a commitment to make sailing an accessible water sport to all, we offer several levels of sailing instruction to get you out on the water! Our adult sailing classes allow people of any age, experience, or ability to learn new skills and grow as a sailor. Whether it’s your first time on the water or you’ve been sailing your whole life, we have a class for you. To participate in the Adult Sailing Program or to take private lessons, you must be a Member of GBSC.

This all-inclusive course is designed for the beginner to novice sailor and will give you the knowledge and ability to learn small sailboat handling in varying conditions. This course consists of four 2.5 hour classes, both on and off the water and will take you through the basics of sailing a Hobie Wave catamaran and Flying Junior, or both. With 2-3 students per boat, sailors should develop the skills required to continue sailing for years to come! Offered Wednesdays 10:00am & 5:30pm or Saturdays 10:00am. For sailors that have completed Adult Sailing 101, or for sailors with prior experience and wanting to improve their boat handling and sail trim skills, this course will have an emphasis on sail trim, steering technique, basic race tactics, and rules. Using the Flying Junior—a double-handed performance sailboat—you will become more comfortable on the ocean and will also be more prepared for casual racing. Students should possess balance and fitness appropriate for sailing and capsizing these small boats. This course consists of four 3 hour classes, both on and off the water. Do you want to take your sailing skills to the next level? Do you want to learn the rules, physics, and tactics that fuel success on the racecourse? Using this challenging single- handed boat, sailors will learn to rig, sail, and race our fleet of lasers. Students should possess the balance and fitness appropriate for sailing and capsizing these small boats. Students also should have taken Adult Sailing 102 or have comparable experience sailing small boats. This course consists of four 3 hour classes, both on and off the water. Offered Tuesdays 10:00am & 5:30pm. Check registration link above for course start dates.
This course will take sailors that have completed Adult Sailing 102 or 103 and now wish to learn larger keelboat sailing. You will learn to trim the three sails found on larger boats, mainsail, genoa, and spinnaker. You will learn basic navigation skills, chart reading and plotting, digital and paper charts. Included will be a Man Overboard drill, and recovery, plus maneuvering and docking. Course 3 will be four 3 hour lessons. *Time TBD, Beginning June 2019
This quick 3-hour private lesson (max. two adults per lesson) gives people a taste of small boat sailing on a simple, easy to learn platform, the Hobie Wave. Not all sailing class schedules work for everyone, or perhaps there is something you want to specifically learn independently and not in a group setting.
